A dog’s journey to a new home was cut short after a house fire tore through a home in southwest Washington state.
The dog was on its way to a family reunion at the time, but the family’s home was destroyed in a fire.
The dogs journey to Terrarium Adventures ended in tragedy Friday.
According to a statement released by the sheriff’s office, the family had just finished their reunion when a small fire broke out in the backyard of the house.
The family called 911 and firefighters were able to get the family to safety.
A spokesperson for Terrarium said the dogs journey was part of a family’s trip.
“We had a very special family reunion, and that was just an incredible day,” she said.
“We are just thankful to be able to say thank you to the family for making that day possible.”
Terrarium has a program called Dog-to-Home that connects people with dogs that are adopted out.
The agency said the family is still receiving support from the sheriff, who said he hopes to reunite with the dog at some point.
Terraria says it is still seeking additional information on the incident.
