In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Journey lead vocalist and guitarist James Guthrie said he had always been open to being gay, but his view on same-sex marriage has changed over the past year.
“There’s definitely a new reality in the world,” Guthrie, 44, told Rolling Stone.
“I think in the past I kind of held on to a lot of the old values, but there’s been this new reality that I think people can be a little bit more accepting of.”
“There are so many gay people that are in the music business now and are doing so well.
There are people that have already been through that journey that have been through it, and that’s why we’re here.”
Guthrie also said he didn’t feel he should have to hide his sexuality from his fans.
“I think it’s just been a little more of a shock to me,” he said.
“Because it’s not something that’s a secret to me.
I think for me it’s a natural part of my life, and it’s one that’s part of me that’s not hiding it.””
It’s just that I don’t think that’s what a gay person should be hiding from the world.”‘
This is just how we are’The band has been working on their fifth studio album, which was released last year, and Guthrie has previously spoken about the band’s relationship with fans.
I don’t want to come across as a bad person, but for me, I’ve always wanted to be a part of that. “
And it’s really hard to talk to people that way, because they’re going to be like, ‘I’m sorry, but I can’t believe you were gay, that’s just how you are.'”
“I don’t want to come across as a bad person, but for me, I’ve always wanted to be a part of that.
I just think that there is no place for that kind of thing in our music.”
You just have to be able to be yourself and say, ‘Okay, I’m gay and that just happened.’
“The band’s latest album, The Last Time, was released in March.
